In its surroundings are positioned some of the most beautiful significant peaks of the Canadian Rockies, such as Mount Niblock, Mount Whyte and Mount Temple. Lake Louise is a well-known ski resort, so much so that it is a traditional stop in the Alpine Ski World Cup, generally for quick trials held in November and December.
How to orient yourself
How to get
By plane
- L'Calgary International Airport it is a 2 and a half hour drive from Lake Louise. There are numerous car rental agencies at the airport, but you can also take one of the many shuttles to reach Lake Louise. To book one in advance contact: Brewster Airporter & Resort Connector, Sun Dog Tours or Banff Airporter Inc.
By car
Lake Louise is located 186 km west of Calgary, and 56 km NW of Banff on Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1, Alberta 93).
An alternative from Banff is to take the Bow Valley Parkway (Highway 1A), a slow-speed road with trees on the sides that, although it does not allow you to enjoy clear views of the mountains, offers the possibility of spotting local wildlife such as bears and deer.
Before driving, it is a good idea to check the road bulletin edited by Parks Canada.

What see
The main attractions in Lake Louise are the vibrantly colored glacial lakes and the Victoria Glacier at the head of Lake Louise. Other lakes to see in the area are Moraine Lake, Bow Lake, and Peyto Lake, all in Banff National Park.
- 1 Lake Louise. Spectacular example of a glacial lake. A must see early in the morning when the light is special and most tourists have not yet arrived.
Events and parties
What to do
The activities to be carried out in the town vary greatly depending on the season. In summer, the main activity is to walk along the edge of the lake, on the mountain paths that start from the lake and lead to magnificent almost untouched scenery. During the summer season canoes can be hired and fishing is also a popular activity. The ski resort remains open and offers the opportunity to enjoy wonderful views from the Gondola (cable car). In winter, of course, the main activities are skiing, snowboarding and all other snow-related winter sports.
