Lautenthal is a climatic health resort in Lower Saxony and since 1972 part of Langelsheim.

background

Lautenthal is one of the 7 mining towns in the district of Goslar and has a population of 1,600. Mining began in the Lautenthal area around 1225. However, this was interrupted by a plague epidemic around 1350. Lauthental was only repopulated when mining was resumed around 1500. Lautenthal was elevated from the mountain village to a town around 1600, and the last mine in the village was closed in 1959.
