Background

In Laveno there are traces of stilts dating back to 3000 BC. In the Middle Ages it was a fishing village and residence of the Visconti and Borromeo families.

Laveno can be reached from the south via Cerro, from the east via Cittiglio, from the north via Luino while from the west it is possible to reach it from Intra, via Lake Maggiore.

What to do

  • Sailing center. A sailing school, officially recognized by the Italian Sailing Federation, located in Laveno mombello, more precisely in Cerro, on the shore of Lake Maggiore near Verbania and the Borromean Islands. There are sailing courses for adults and children, and they are open all year round. 
  • Delta Club Laveno. You can practice both paragliding and hang gliding. You can practice free flight, take tourist flights and already experienced pilots can fly to their flying sites (this brings advantages such as a shuttle service to take-offs and refreshment points). 
  • Paragliding Club Laveno. A school for free flight, theoretical and practical lessons are held, with flight itineraries. 


Shopping

Laveno has been a famous center for the production of ceramics since the 19th century. On the history of ceramics there is a museum located on the lakefront, in the hamlet of Cerro, and see also the volume by Giuseppe Musumeci and Luciano Paoli "Laveno and its ceramics: over a century of history", Marwan editions, Mesenzana 1994. Currently the he Lavenese industry has developed in the field of paper mills.

The industrial area of ​​Laveno today hosts several small and medium-sized companies in the manufacturing and engineering sector.
