Leipe (Lower Sorbian: Lipje) is a small idyllic village in the middle of the Oberspreewaldes.

The first mention of the village comes from the year 1315. Reason for the establishment of the village as well as the neighboring one Lehde this was possibly the richness of fish in the region at the time. The name is from the Lower Sorbian word Lipa (= Linden tree) derived. Possibly the valley sand island (Kaupe), which was used for settlement, was overgrown with linden trees. Until the mid-30s of the 20th century, Leipe could only be reached by boat or, in winter, with ice skates. In 1936 the first footpath was built that the village with Luebbenau Association. A road connection was only built in the early 1960s Castle. Today Leipe is a popular place for travelers looking for peace and quiet.
