West London is an area of the city of London.
To know
West London is a vast outer area of the London suburbs ranging from the overcrowded tree-lined streets of Chiswick, Acton and Ealing through the semi rural western areas between Heathrow and Uxbridge. As one might expect from the outer areas of a largely western metropolis of the city there are commuter areas although many central streets in these areas, connected to main stations, have a lot to offer travelers, both for accommodation and for visit, especially along the meandering river Thames.
The popularity of West London can be explained by various factors, first of all the proximity to Heathrow airport as well as the easy connection of means of transport to the center.
Once here was the county of Middlesex which no longer exists for administrative reasons, although it is still used today as part of the postal address.
Municipalities
West London consists of various suburbs, villages and satellite cities. Many areas are particularly popular with travelers due to their attractions, amenities and accommodation options:
- Ealing- The municipality of Ealing includes the following areas:
- Acton, an area very popular with Australians, New Zealanders and South Africans. Very busy thanks to the choice of entertainment, affordable accommodation and excellent transport connections to both the city and other areas. Although it is part of the municipality of Ealing, it still has its own identity.
- Ealing itself is known as the "queen six suburbs".
- Southall, also known as 'Little India' and a must-visit area if you have time to go beyond central London. If you only have to do one thing when you are here, make sure you eat curry at one of the many Asian restaurants. However, attention must be paid to street crimes, especially pickpocketing, as well as looking a little too decadent for those who just pass by for a quick visit.
- Hounslow- The town hall includes the following areas:
- Chiswick, upscale and very green district, famous for the variety of high quality shops.
- Brentford, located in the central connection between Heathrow and central London, it is primarily a commercial area. The riverside part, on the north bank, has several new buildings and hotels.
- Hounslow, an area for the working class with many residents employed at the airport. Known for being the queen of "99p" shops and a great place to find bargains in high street shops. It has recently become the hub for many middle class hotels (Travel Lodge, Premier Inn, Best Western etc.) taking advantage of its proximity to the airport and good connection to the center.
- Hillingdon- town hall which includes:
- Uxbridge, the administrative center of Hillingdon Town Hall. Vibrant area on the edge of London where you can have a good shopping experience and with excellent connections to the center.
- Hayes, industrial and social housing area with good access to the airport.
- Ruislip, residential area with a "lido" and various woods, including a nature reserve.

Brentford
Historically (and unsurprisingly given the area's working-class origins) Brentford is known as the city of drinkers. Its long reputation has it that in Victorian times, there was a pub on every corner. Even today, there are a significant number of places to drink trying to make ends meet by serving on the back streets west of Ealing Brodway. Many are very welcoming to foreigners even though they maintain a very strong local clientele, mostly men.
For the visitor looking for a more eclectic drinking experience, pubs like the Magpie And Crown (on the main road, opposite the magistrates' court) offers a good selection of Ale and imported beers (including draft fruit beers), while the Old Firestation (also on the main street) attracts more young people thanks to its contemporary bar atmosphere and great cocktails. The The Weir (on Market Place) offers, in its garden, outdoor seats on the river, while the Brewery Tap (located tucked away at the end of Catherine Wheel Road) is a small two-room pub offering traditional food, live jazz concerts and a quirky clientele, for those looking to discover the true character of Brentford.
Visitors will notice that some pubs such as the Albany Arms and the Beehive are only frequented by locals, who can be rude to strangers.
Beer lovers will enjoy the fact that many of Brentford's pubs are "connected houses" which means they are owned by the breweries, most notably Fuller, based in Chiswick. Sure, Fuller's pint is fresh and local.
