Geographical notes
Enfield Town Hall
Enfield can be divided into four distinct areas:
- Enfield Town, Chase, Slades Hill and Hadley Wood. Shopping at the Palace Xchange can be very expensive but there are some very famous shops, including Colors Of Benetton, Ralph Lauren, Armani Exchange, The Arsenal Store, H&M, Next, Rolex, Per Lui, TK Maxx, Pearsons Department Store, JD Sports, M&S, Jane Norman, as well as various coffee shops (Cafe Nero, Starbucks and Costa). In addition, the world's first ATM machine was installed in Enfield, at the Barclays bank at the EN2 center.
- Southgate and Palmers Green - Rich suburban area with beautiful Victorian and Edwardian houses, buses 121 and 329 quickly get you to Enfield Town.
- Oakwood, Cockfosters, Grange Park and Cat Hill - Bourgeois suburb bordering the city's green belt, "London's Metropolitan Green Belt"; Panoramic views of the open countryside are not uncommon in both Chase and Oakwood.
- Edmonton and Bush Hill Park - two upper-middle-class suburbs where the "Edmonton Green shopping center" is located, the Edmonton Green station and many other shopping centers.
Finchley
Large, very vital metropolitan area in the center of the North London area which can be divided into several areas including Finchley Central (known historically as Finchley Church End), East Finchley and West Finchley.
Finchley Central is one of the few areas in the city to have a farm, College Farm, which is an attraction for locals and tourists who want to see horses, cows, yaks, pigs and other farm animals. In the center there is also the famous statue of the "naked lady" which is found at Henly's Corner. The hotels in the district have a good offer ranging from B & Bs to the Holiday Inn Finchley. Here you will also find upper-middle-class areas mixed with corners of working-class areas, which give the whole a particular characteristic. There is also an area for the Jewish community even if they are not very Orthodox, which instead can be found in Hendon and Golders Green. This community is represented by various synagogues scattered around the area and the most prominent is the "New North London Synagogue" on East End Road which functions as a cultural center for the community.
There are many well-priced restaurants in Finchley Central that specialize in various cuisines, such as Kosher and Halal. There are also many bohemian bars and some serve alcohol until late. From here it is easy to reach the center with the tube Northern Line and many buses. Although this is a very urban area, you can go to the nearby Mill Hill area to enjoy the English countryside.
Kilburn

Kilburn is a very lively and diverse area that stretches along Roman Watling Street. North Kilburn surrounds the smaller area of Brondesbury. Known as "little Dublin", Kilburn embraces the town halls of Brent and Camden.
Surrounded by rich areas, there are many influences here. Historically it was a focal point for Irish immigration and although few remain here, the influence remains in the name and style of some pubs and cafes. The community is diverse, both ethnically and socially, with a mixture of poor and rich streets.
Tottenham
In the Domesday manuscript, Tottenham is mentioned as the property of a man named Tota. The village grew around the High Cross area at the intersection with the High Road (the Roman road Ermine Street) and what is now Monument Way.
As a rural village it was a popular destination with the wealthy and Henry VIII is believed to have visited Bruce Castle. The area remained semi-rural until the 19th century when the railway brought more work and the need for more houses, which accelerated the growth of this area until it was a target for bombing by the Luftwaffe in World War II.
Tottenham has since become famous for being one of the poorest areas in north London and was the scene of the Broadwate Farm riots in 1985. Since then the area has done a lot to recover and today it is reputed to be the most ethnically diverse area in Western Europe. The riots of 2011 were born here, the scene of the worst looting.
