In LIRR
There is a terminal in Long Island City (officially, it's not a station, but rather a "landing stage"), and a slightly busier station on Hunterspoint Ave. They are only served by a few trains during peak hours, and are not accessible from Manhattan, but can be useful if you are traveling to / from this location. The Long Island City station is worth a visit if only to see how big it is compared to the minimal traffic that runs there, given that it was the main LIRR terminus before Penn Station.

To the north, Astoria is mainly known for its heaps of great Greek restaurants that draw crowds from all boroughs. Further south of Long Island City there are two main dining routes: the popular Vernon Boulevard just north of the entrance to the Midtown Tunnel with its many delicious, multi-ethnic restaurants, and the four-block section of Steinway Street just south of the Grand Central Parkway which is home to dozens of Middle Eastern restaurants.
- 1 Agnanti 19-06 Ditmars Boulevard ( towards Ditmars Boulevard), 1 (718) 545-4554 – Delicious Greek cuisine with a terrace on the edge of Astoria Park and a lovely dining room that seems to be far from new York. Don't miss the grilled saganaki where the greek salad, for the main course, look for the many seafood offerings.
- 2 Bare Burger 33-21 31st Ave ( towards Ditmars Boulevard), 1 (718) 777-7011 – One burger joint innovative offering organic burgers made with a choice of beef, ostrich, elk and mutton. Very good milkshakes.
- 3 Casa Enrique 5-48 49th Ave ( to Vernon Boulevard-Jackson Av), 1 (347) 448-6040 – Small restaurant Mexican nice location right next to Long Island City's main restaurants on Vernon Boulevard Plenty of great options here: braised mutton shank, chicken enchiladas with salsa verde, stuffed peppers with cream sauce and more.
- 4 Kabab Cafe 25-12 Steinway St, 1 (718) 728-9858 – This nice tiny Egyptian restaurant has delicious food. Recommended: The starters sauteed artichokes and sauteed beet, apple and garlic, with a variety of North Egyptian entries like the braised lamb cheeks (braised mutton cheeks) and the calamari with eggplant & grilled vegetables (calamari with eggplants and grilled vegetables).
- Koliba Restaurant 31-11 23rd Ave ( towards Astoria Boulevard), 1 718 626-0430 – Czech and Slovak restaurant serving traditional cuisine accompanied by a variety of Czech and Slovak beers and a full bar to accompany your meal.
