The district Lubombo lies to the east of Eswatini. It borders the districts Hhohho, Manzini and Shiselweni. Eastern neighboring country is Mozambique, in the southeast is the south african province KwaZulu-Natal, in the north the province Mpumalanga.

The region got its name after the mountain range of the Lebombo Mountains, a low mountain range stretching 800 km from the coast of the Indian Ocean along the eastern border of Eswatini and the eastern side of the Kruger National Park extends. The mountain range reaches a height of almost 800 m, it is penetrated by several river valleys from west to east. On the one hand, this is the Lusuthu (also Usuthu or Lusutfu), this river has its source in South Africa, flows through the Manzini district, crosses Lubombo and then flows as Maputo River through Mozambique to the Indian Ocean.
