Lębork is a city in the polishPomeranian Voivodeship a few kilometers south of the Baltic coast and northwest of the Kashubian Switzerland along the river Łeba.
background
The place was founded in the first half of the 14th century instead of an older Slavic settlement by the Teutonic Order and given city rights. In 1440 the city joined the Prussian Confederation and in 1454 submitted to the Polish king, which had to be recognized by the order in the Second Peace of Thorn in 1466. The Polish crown entrusted the Dukes of Pomerania with Lębork and the nearby one Bytów. With the First Partition of Poland in 1772, the place came to Prussia, in 1871 to the German Empire and in 1918 to the Weimar Republic. He has been Polish since 1945.
