Mġarr is a place in Northern District North of Malta.

background

The municipality of Mġarr is located in the northwest of Malta in an agricultural, relatively fertile area. With various hamlets and homesteads, the community takes up a relatively large area of ​​land up to the west coast of the island.

Originally, the land in the area of ​​today's parish belonged to patrician families Mdina, the land around the settlement Mgiarro was handed over to the Inguanez family by the King of Sicily and later sold to the Falsone family.

It was not until 1912 that the parish church of Santa Maria, which was architecturally attached to the Rotunda of Mosta ajar, started and the construction of its own church was not completed until 1946. The place retained its agricultural character, even though tourism increasingly arose due to the excavation of temples and the community was discovered as a residential area.

A sculpture of a temple model made of globigerine limestone is extremely interesting; the temples are built from local hard coral limestone.
