Tourist Attractions

View from 2004

Scaliger Castle. On a ledge it rises almost vertically above the lake. The 13th century castle consists of a lower and an upper palace and three courtyards. The oldest part of the castle consists of a curtain wall with square battlements, the middle one shows battlements in the shape of a dovetail. The outer courtyard leads to a balcony with a wonderful view of the bay. In the castle you can visit a small museum with natural objects and historical objects. In the courtyard of the castle there is a bust of Johann-Wolfgang von Goethe, which reminds us that he stayed here during his Italian trip and was even imprisoned for a short time for espionage.

Another attraction is the one between olive trees Parish church from the 16th century. It is particularly rich in valuable pieces of marble.

In the 17th century the church became the Madonna del Rosario (also called the Church of the Madonna della Fontana, after the fountain in the square in front of the church). There you will also find excellent marble works of art and interesting paintings such as the Virgin and Child and Saints Nicholas from Tolentino and St. Rocco by the painter Nicolò Crontani.
