Mardorf is a "state-approved resort" on the north bank of the Steinhuder Meer in Lower Saxony and is a district of Neustadt am Rübenberge.
background
Mardorf is one of the tourist centers on the Steinhuder Meer and offers a good infrastructure for a wide variety of tourist and leisure activities. Local public transport is constantly being expanded, thereby further improving accessibility for travelers without their own car. In addition to the hourly bus line 830 (in the evenings and on weekends and on public holidays as line 831) there is now line 835, which runs around the Steinhuder Meer (also every hour during the season, outside of certain times) and, if necessary, free bike transport enables.
The former farming village, whose first documentary mention of "Meredorpe" (village by the sea) is in 1171, like many other settlements, had to cope with numerous natural disasters, epidemics, wars and famines over the centuries, in which the population of the village was reduced several times and even the location of the entire village was relocated. Originally as a Lütjen Mardrup Located directly by the sea, the gradual relocation of the settlement into today's local area began in 1620. [1]
The center of the village with its old structure such as the half-timbered chapel, the small and large carefully restored half-timbered houses has "Aloys-Bunge-Platz" with the tourist information center in its center.
