Neustadt am Rübenberge is a city in the northern suburbs of Hanover, but despite its relative size and proximity to the big city, it is quite rural, because the so-called core city has only about 18,000 inhabitants. The remaining 23,000 inhabitants are distributed among the surrounding 33 villages, which were added to the urban area when the former district of Neustadt was dissolved. This also includes, for example Mardorf at Steinhuder Meer. - In the pedestrian zone around the Liebfrauenkirche, the city center has some half-timbered houses that are well worth seeing.
