Mardorf is a "state-approved resort" on the north bank of the Steinhuder Meer in Lower Saxony and is a district of Neustadt am Rübenberge.

Mardorf is one of the tourist centers on the Steinhuder Meer and offers a good infrastructure for a wide variety of tourist and leisure activities. Local public transport is constantly being expanded, thereby further improving accessibility for travelers without their own car. In addition to the hourly bus line 830 (in the evenings and on weekends and on public holidays as line 831) there is now line 835, which runs around the Steinhuder Meer (also every hour during the season, outside of certain times) and, if necessary, free bike transport enables.

The former farming village, whose first documentary mention of "Meredorpe" (village by the sea) is in 1171, like many other settlements, had to cope with numerous natural disasters, epidemics, wars and famines over the centuries, in which the population of the village was reduced several times and even the location of the entire village was relocated. Mardorf is that Greater Hanover (GVH) connected. This means that the tickets are valid in the entire traffic area for buses and trains. On weekdays there are at least hourly bus connections from and to Neustadt to the train station until the evening hours. There is also a bus connection with line 835 from Neustadt to Mardorf, further via Rehburg (here connections to Loccum and Nienburg), Bad Rehburg, Münchehagen, Winzlar, Hagenburg, Steinhude, Großenheidorn (around the Steinhuder Meer) to Wunstorf- Train station where you can take your bike with you free of charge with the help of a bike trailer. The line runs daily and hourly from June to August and otherwise limited in the rest of the period and only on weekends in winter.

There are designated bicycle routes that connect the villages with each other and also lead to special places, each with its own logo. The Steinhuder Meer circular route has a length of approx. 32 km.

Regular activities

The third weekend in August takes place annually Festive weekend at Steinhuder Meer. One of the highlights is the fireworks Steinhuder Meer in flames on Saturday night. Numerous concerts, including at the White Dune beach in Mardorf and fire shows, offer a varied program.
