Marstrand is a city in the parish Kungälv in the Swedish province of Västra Götalands län and historical province Bohuslan. It is located about 30 km northwest of Gothenburg on the islands of Marstrandsö and Koö in the Skagerrak.

Marstrand is one of the most important seaside resorts on the west coast, a summer paradise and a sailing metropolis.

The rise of Marstrand to a flourishing coastal town in the Middle Ages came through the herring, the Pope even granted an exceptional permit for fishing on weekends and holidays. Due to the herring drift, there have always been years with exceptionally large herring catches.

There are regular buses from Gothenburg Västtrafik to Marstrand.

In the street

From Gothenburg on the E6 to Kungälv, then 25 km further on road 168 over bridges and various islands to the end of the road on the island of Koön.

Public parking spaces are available at the end of the street in Marstrand. It is then about 500 meters to the ferry.

By boat

From the beginning of July to the beginning of August ships leave Gunnars Båtturer five days a week between Tjörn and Marstrand, and between Marstrand and Käringön every Wednesday and Thursday.
