Matapedia is a parish of the Gaspesie to Quebec.

Understand

Matapedia is a small village located where the Matapedia and Ristigouche rivers meet, both of which are internationally renowned for salmon fishing. Moreover, the name of the village comes from the Mi'kmaq language and means "where the rivers meet". The landscapes in Matapedia are remarkably splendid.

There is a tourist information relay located in the parking lot of the church which provides information on the region.

Story

Matapedia became the first place of colonization of the Matapedia valley when Loyalists came to settle there following the American Revolution. Subsequently, the place saw the arrival of Acadian, Irish and French Canadian settlers as well as English Canadians from the maritime provinces. The different cultures are still present in harmony today.
