Meetjesland is a region of Belgium of the Province of East Flanders.

Understand

the Meetjesland is a region located in the northwest of the province Belgian of East Flanders. It is the rural region lying between the towns of Ghent and of Bruges.

The name of the region comes from the time of the emperor Charles Quint. Fearing the emperor's strong sexual appetite, the locals are said to have hidden their daughters. The emperor would then have declared that the region was the country of "old women" (meetjes).
