The Meissner highlands is a region in the southwestern hinterland of Dresden, between the Elbe valley basin, the Lommatzian care and the Eastern Ore Mountains. - Freital - the largest city in the region is located in Plauenschen Grund in the south. Freital was created in 1921 through the amalgamation of several communities and in the past was mainly characterized by coal mining and the steel industry.
- Hartha - Health resort and holiday resort on the north-eastern edge of the Tharandt forest.
- Hetzdorf - Holiday resort on the western edge of the Tharandt forest.
- Mohorn (with reason) - Small town and holiday resort located on the northern edge of the Tharandt forest.
- Pesterwitz - Place via Freital with the Burgwartsberg, the St. Jakobus Church and the Weinbergschlösschen Jochhöh.
- Tharandt - largest place in the Tharandt forest; Tharandt Castle and Forest Academy.
- Wilsdruff - Small town on the Wilder Sau and on the federal highway 4; Wilsdruff radio tower with associated exhibition in the local history museum.

The Meißner highlands can be easily reached via the west-east motorway 4 Erfurt – Chemnitz – Dresden. The exit via which you leave the motorway is called 
77a Wilsdruff. Roads lead from there Meissen in the north and Kesselsdorf and Grumbach in the south, where you meet the B 173. This federal road opens up the middle of the treated area from Dresden. The most important place on the B 173 is Mohorn. Who after Tharandt in the south, cross the B 173 in Grumbach and continue south. Coming from Dresden, we recommend the scenic approach over the Plauenschen Grund and Freital.
