Safety

Michoacán is the most dangerous state in Mexico due to drug-fueled violence. Crime is not limited to large cities, but can also occur in rural areas. As of January 2014, there have been reports of heavily armed vigilante groups who forcibly disarmed the police, probably as part of an ongoing dispute between rival drug gangs.

Travelers must be cautious at all times.
