The Town Hall of Wandsowrth is a district of the city of London.
To know
Wandsworth consists mainly of modest houses built as a sub-urban retreat in the 19th century, spotted with green areas, a historical remnant of the village subdivision of the various boroughs. Today these houses, close to bars and cafes and the large park of Clapham Common they are inhabited by young professionals working from the City, while the cosmopolitan Tooting it is home to a large South Asian community. Some new buildings are located on the river a Putney is Battersea, where these pretentious buildings are stuck with the industrial envelope of the old power plant.

On the train
- 1 Clapham Junction is a main station in South London and a huge number of services pass through here, including SouthWest Trains from Waterloo and Southern Railway from Victoria, the western branch of the London Overground overground tube.
- Tooting Thameslink runs from the Holborn and Wimbledon viaducts and is bound for Luton Airport. Trains can be taken at Tooting, Wandsworth Common and Balham stations.
- Trains from Waterloo to Putney leave every 10 minutes and the journey takes 20 minutes.
By bus
- Putney is connected by bus with the following areas:
- South Kensington, Knightsbridge and Hyde Park (bus lines 430, 14, 74).
- Clapham Junction (Bus Line 39, 337, 37 Bus). Victoria Station (Line 170). Earl's Court (Line 74).
- Line 14 also connects Putney with the Oxford Street area (Warren Street, Goodge Street, Tottenham Court), the West End (Piccadilly Circus) and the Buckingham Palace area (Green Park). 220 connects Putney with Hammersmith and Shepherd's Bush. Line 10 runs at night and connects Putney with King's Cross and Euston stations.

What see
- 1 Battersea Park (Battersea Park) (tube station: Sloane Square then a 15 minute walk across Chelsea Bridge), @[email protected]. A beautiful park on the south bank of the Thames known for its wildlife and some examples of ancient trees.
- 2 Battersea Power Station (Battersea Power Station). One of the great icons of smoky old London of the mid-20th century and admired as a fine example of industrial design from the Art Deco period. Coal-fired power plant that worked until 1983 and is currently undergoing a renovation and then making apartments. The best view is from afar over the north side of the river in Chelsea.
- 3 Clapham Common (tube station: Clapham Common). Large open space in the highly populated area of Wandsworth, which has brought convenience to Londoners since time immemorial. Its vaguely triangular shape occupies 88 acres and is mainly composed of lawns with scattered trees. There are three ponds here, very popular with local fishermen. The bandstand is now on the Grade II List of Historic Buildings and was fully restored in 2006.
- 4 London Wetland Center Nature Reserve, Queen Elizabeth's Walk, Barnes (tube station: Hammersmith, then bus 283; or bus 33 from Richmond), ☎ 44 20 8409 4400, @[email protected]. £4.50-8.13. Nature reserve that occupies the perimeter of the old Barn Elms water reserves. A major swamp for migratory birds and a great location for bird watchers. Also great for children.
- 5 St. Mary's Church (St. Mary's Church), Battersea Church Road, Battersea, ☎ 44 20 7228 9648, @[email protected]. One of the oldest churches in Battersea. This is where Christians have been praying since 800. Protected by the Grade II List of Historic Buildings.
- 6 Wandsworth Museum (Wandsworth Museum), 38 West Hill, SW18 1RZ, ☎ 44 20 8875 8323, @[email protected]. Modest museum that tells about local history, has a very good coffee shop.

- 1 Clapham Picturehouse Cinema, 76 Venn Street, SW4 0AT (tube station: Clapham Common), ☎ 44 20 7498 3323. They show all sorts of films.
- 2 Easy Peasy Skate (Battersea Park). Sat 10:30. For all levels. They also organize lessons for beginners.
- 3 Putney Arts Theater, Ravenna Road, SW15 6AW, ☎ 44 20 8788 6943. For theater lovers this is a highly recommended place. They organize acting courses for adults and children who produce 8 shows every year. The Putney Theater company offers opportunities for those interested in various theatrical figures, from actor to screenwriter to art departments. Group 64 is the group for children who organize weekly classes and summer projects as well as put together productions.
- 4 Putney Leisure Center (Putney Leisure Center), Dryburgh Road, SW15 1BL, ☎ 44 20 8785 0388. £4. You can swim and take a sauna all year round.
- Putney Walk (Putney Walk). Start at Putney Train Station, passing historic houses, old pubs, a cemetery, the banks of the river etc.
- Walk on the Thames (Thames Path). It starts from Embankment Street and if you are feeling energetic from there you can walk on Lower Richmond Road via Festing Road which is a street with many cute little white houses. Continue walking west until you reach the village of Barnes.
- 5 Tooting Bec Common, 45 Tooting Bec Gardens, London SW16 1RF. A real park gem. Here you will find the tennis court, football pitch and lots of open space. Other sporting facilities are the Putney Leisure Center, a swimming pool, golf course, horse racing, outdoor swimming pool (UK's largest), athletics track and nearby Streatham Ic Rink ice rink.
- 6 Tooting & Mitcham United Football Club, Imperial Fields, Bishopsford Road, Mitcham (tube station: Morden, buses 280, 118, 201, Mitcham stop), ☎ 44 20 8648 3248. The Stripes they are a team based at the Imperial Fields stadium. This newly built stadium has been promoted to the Ryman Premier League. The club contains a coffee shop which also serves beers, big screen for watching sports and a gym.
Shopping
- 1 Clapham Junction (near Clapham Junction train station). Good selection of chain stores and supermarkets as well as bars, cafes and restaurants. Near Northcote Road there are many independent shops and a Saturday market that sells organic food and a covered antiques market.
- 2 Putney High Street. International shopping and restaurants.
- 3 Broadway Market in Tooting, Tooting High Street, SW17 0RJ (tube station: Tooting Broadway), ☎ 44 20 8672 6613. It has an interesting selection of products, including fruits and vegetables, clothes, furniture and household items.

Battersea

Where to eat
There are two main places to eat in Wandsworth. Street Johns Hill and Battersea Rise near Clapham Junction have a great variety of restaurants and new ones are opening all the time; area very popular with young professionals who catapult here after work. For tourists looking to escape the horror of the overpriced goods found downtown, here is an easy-to-reach option. The second node is Tooting which has excellent Indian restaurants even if they cannot compare with Brick Lane.

Many people among the staff are kind and fast and there is no time to sit down when the pappadoms are already arriving. Also great for vegetarians. The portions are generous and the prices are fair.

There are many restaurants and bars in the area of Putney Wharf just behind St Mary's church.
