Moerfelden-Walldorf is a city in South Hesse. It is popular with Frankfurt's middle and upper classes and is home to a number of personalities associated with Frankfurt Airport.

background

The twin town of Mörfelden-Walldorf was created in 1977 through the merger of the formerly independent towns of Mörfelden and Walldorf. Actually, the united city should Waldfelden and that's what it was called for a year, but the residents didn't like the name so much that after massive protests the name was changed to Mörfelden-Walldorf.

Mörfelden has a long tradition as an important traffic junction on historical trade routes and is mentioned as early as the 9th century. Walldorf did not come into being until 1699 as a planned town for Protestant refugees from France (so-called Waldensians). Today both districts benefit from their proximity to the airport.
