background

Mürren lies on a terrace above the Lauterbrunnen valley. Politically, the village belongs to the municipality Lauterbrunnen. It was first mentioned in a document in 1257. A holiday area has developed here since the mid-19th century, which is particularly popular with English Alpine fans.

getting there

Murren is Carless. The car must be left in the Lauterbrunnen valley, all luggage is carried. Don't forget anything, the way costs a cable car ticket!

You travel by train via Basel and Bern to Interlaken Ost, where you have to change to the BOB to Lauterbrunnen.

From the Lauterbrunenetal there are two ways to reach Mürren.

On the one hand the Lauterbrunnen-Mürren cable car. This leads from Lauterbrunnen station, since 2007, instead of the funicular, it is now an aerial cableway to Grütschalp, where it changes to a railcar that covers the 4 km long narrow-gauge route to Mürren.

On the other hand, from Stechelberg, at the end of the valley, with the LSMS cable car, which reaches Mürren via the intermediate station Gimmelwald. The very spacious gondola goes almost vertically several hundred meters up the steep face and is a special experience.
