The municipality covers the entire Lauterbrunnen valley with the two well-known villages Murren and Wengen. The village of Lauterbrunnen is located in the valley floor.

The entire municipality is criss-crossed by a wide variety of mountain railways. The two villages of Wengen and Mürren are closed to normal car traffic. Only in the valley floor are there roads open to private motorized traffic.
