The egyptian Village With damsis (Arabic:ميت دمسيس‎, Mīt Damsīs) is located at Nile Delta in the Governorateed-Daqahlīya about 20 kilometers north of With Ghamr. In it is located with the monastery of St. Georg is an important pilgrimage site with its two churches.

From Mīt Ghamr you take a windowless microbus to Mīt Damsīs. The journey in the possibly overcrowded bus costs LE 1 (status 10/2011). On Fridays, of course, there are no buses at lunchtime.

You have to walk the last 200 meters from the bus stop to the monastery.

During the feast of Saints in August, buses and service taxis also leave Cairo from ʿAbūd station.

The streets in the village are sometimes very narrow. You can pass it with a car, it is not always enough for oncoming traffic. There are no problems on foot.

Monastery of St. George

Within the 1 Monastery of St. George(30 ° 49 ′ 31 ″ N.31 ° 13 ′ 13 ″ E), Arabic:دير الشهيد العظيم مار جرجس‎, Dair al-Shahid al-ʿAẓīm Mār Girgis, „Monastery of the Great Martyr, St. George“Is the courtyard where both churches are located.

At the east end of the courtyard is the new church of St. George. It was built in 1880. Nowadays there is a round mosaic of St. Georg from 1961. The church has three aisles and has three Heische (Holy of Holies). The left one is for the Archangel Michael, the middle one for St. George and the right one for St. Virgo for sure. The church has a dome in the middle, which is surrounded by a flat roof. Passages lead from both side aisles to side passages with undecorated domes. There are stained glass windows on the walls and on the entrance wall of the church.

The Heische are separated from the community room by a stone screen wall on which there is marble decoration. Above the iconostasis is the cross, which is flanked by the portraits of Mary and Joseph, below it are twelve icons on either side, each representing six apostles and six saints, and in the middle is that of Christ. There are other icons on the screen, to the left of St. Schenuda (Schenute), St. Rebekah, the Archangel Michael, St. George and St. Virgin. On the right one recognizes Christ, St. Mark, St. Damiana, the hll. Constantine and Helena and St. Anthonius.

On the north wall are the icons of Anba Anthonius, Christ's baptism, Maximus and Domadius, as well as those of Anba Samu'il. The reliquary shrines for George and Rebekka are located on the entrance wall. On the south wall are the icons of St. Menas, St. Athanasius and other icons depicting the life of Christ.

The baptismal font is in a separate building in the south of the church.

On the south side of the courtyard is the old church of St. George. Pilgrims seeking healing gather in this church.

A staircase leads to the entrance in the north wall. There is an icon of St. George. The church has three aisles, two pillars divide it into three aisles and two transepts. The arches that support the wooden flat roof are also paneled with wood. The three naves lead to three heicals, who, as in the main church, are dedicated to the Archangel Michael, St. George and for St. Virgo are intended. The wooden screen wall is inlaid with ivory. In the middle of the screen there are no icons, on the sides the screen wall is bordered at the top with the images of the twelve apostles and other saints.

On the sides and the back wall there are modern icons with scenes from the life of Christ. In the middle of the back wall is the old miraculous icon of St. George, which is bordered on both sides by a pair of columns.

The one known throughout Egypt Mulid, the festival of saints, takes place every year from 17th to 25th Mesori (23–31 August). Several thousand pilgrims arrive every day, including patients who hope for a cure or alleviation of their ailments.
