By train
Line Shinkansen Hokuriku (a branch of the Shikansen Jōetsu line to Niigata), connects the city of Nagano To Tokyo in about 1 h 30.
Since Nagoya, we can join the Kiso valley (for a day or more) by train and bus in 1 h 30, or Nagano in 2 h 40.
By bus
