The Krkonose National Park(Polish: Karkonoski Park Narodowy) is a national park in Poland. It is located in the southwestern part Lower Silesia, in the mountain range of the Giant Mountains in the Sudeten immediately south of Jelenia Górawhere the administrative headquarters of the national park is located.

The park was designated as early as 1959.

The national park is 59.51 km².

Flora and fauna

It is home to coniferous forests where deer, roe deer, wild boars and foxes still live. The symbol of the national park is the Schneekoppe.

climate

The weather in the nature park is quite rough and cool due to the exposed altitude and the microclimate of the western Sudetes. The winters are very snowy and cold, while the summer is pleasantly cool. There is usually a north-westerly wind.

There are buses to Jelenia Góra Karpacz and Szklarska Porebawhere the entrances to the national park are.

There is a fee to enter the national park.

mobility

You can hike and climb in the park along the hiking trails. The mountains can be climbed without any climbing knowledge. The rock faces, on the other hand, require good climbing skills. Two cable cars bring tourists to the Kammweg, one from Karpacz to the Little head and one from Szklarska Poręba Frost bearer. Weatherproof clothing is necessary if you want to go on the Kammweg. The hiking trails are very well developed so that you can master the ridge trail even with lighter shoes.

Tourist Attractions

  • The main attraction of the park are the numerous rock formations and the waterfalls Pink and at the Great Lomnitz, the Karseen and the Schneekare. The most important excursion destination is the summit of the Schneekoppe. Part of the national park, although not connected to the main area, is the Kynast castle ruins.

The national park invites you to go hiking, winter sports and climbing. 112 km of marked hiking trails and 17 km of cross-country trails are available for this.

At the entrances and in the mountain huts you can buy souvenirs, maps, postcards and small snacks.

In the health resorts Karpacz and Szklarska Poreba you can stay in hotels, guest houses and guest rooms.
