Naturno (ital. Naturno) is a community in Vinschgau.

Geographically, Naturns still belongs to the Vinschgau region, but administratively to the Burgrave Office.

The community advertises with 315 days of sunshine a year. There is dry vegetation and steppe flora on the Sonnenberg. Rain is rare, with an average of only 450 to 600 mm of annual precipitation. For this reason, irrigation systems were developed with the Waalen at an early stage in order to create the water required for agriculture.

By plane

The nearest airport is in Bolzano (www.abd-airport.it), other airports are located in Verona, in innsbruck (approx. 2 hours by car).

By train

Naturno lies on the Merano-Malles railway line. The train Vinschgerbahn of the 1 Station Naturno Almost every half hour there are trains to the spa town of Merano, to the state capital of Bozen or to Malles in the upper Vinschgau.

By bus

Train & bike

The EventCard includes the day train ride on the Bolzano-Meran-Mals route and a rental bike with a helmet. It is available from all bike rentals on the railway line, from ticket machines, in the Vinschgau tourism associations and at other sales points that are marked with the transport association's logo. Proculus Church

There are bike rentals at seven train stations on the Bozen - Meran - Mals line in Bozen Süd, Meran (goods station area), Naturns, Latsch, Schlanders, Spondinig and Mals. Then there is the rental on the Reschen. Bicycles can be rented and returned everywhere. There are over 1000 bikes available, such as mountain bikes, city bikes, trekking bikes, children's bikes and 10 tandems.

Tourist Attractions

  • The 1 Proculus Church is famous for its unique frescoes from the early Middle Ages, which are still considered to be the oldest in the German-speaking area. The Proculus Museum, right next to the church, is completely underground.
Messner Montain Museum
  • 2  Juval Castle. built by Hugo von Montalban around 1278. Since 1983 it has been the summer residence of Reinhold Messner, who has housed several art collections there. There is no parking space at the castle. It is possible to use the shuttle bus or to go on foot. The castle can be reached in various ways, such as the Stabener Waalweg, Tscharser Waalweg or Schnalser Waalweg.
Juval Castle
  • This is located in Juval Castle Messner Mountain Museum, Juval Castle, 39020 Kastelbell (BZ), Tel. 39 348 4433871, [email protected], with art collections and collections of objects from the Himalayas. Open from Palm Sunday to June 30th and from September 1st to the first Sunday in November from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed on Wednesdays, visits are only possible with a guide.
  • The 3 Hochnaturns Castle is the landmark of the place. The builders were ministerials of the Counts of Tyrol. Visits are not possible in private ownership.
  • The 4 St. Oswald Church in Tschirland. The Gothic building was built in 1433 and redesigned in 1669. The altarpieces and ceiling paintings are by the Naturno baroque painter Simon Ybertracher (1694-1772), the Gothic fresco fragment on the south wall was uncovered during the last restoration.
Hochnaturns Castle
  • The 5 Maurbamerhof is mentioned for the first time in 1319, it was probably built around the turn of the millennium. There is a so-called Feldtorggl to marvel at, which is attached to the old, crumbling house. It is about a Pomace presswhich was intended to press the grapes that were left behind when the wine was drawn off, the so-called marc, until the last drop of the grape juice was squeezed out. The Maurbamer Torggl, which dates back to the 14th century, is likely to have been the longest in operation pomace press in the Vinschgau Valley and probably also the Burgrave's Office.
  • The 6 High pressure hydropower plant the Etschwerke was built in 1963. The water comes from the Vernagt reservoir at 1,689.5 m and reaches the powerhouse in Naturns via a 15 km long pressure tunnel and a two km long pressure pipeline. The pressure pipeline with a diameter of around 2 m runs on the slope of the Naturnser Sonnberg. The power plant has three turbines with a combined maximum of 180 MW, with a head of over 1,150 meters. It is the most powerful hydropower plant in South Tyrol and one of the world's power plants with the greatest head.
  • The Unterortl winery on the steep slope below Juval Castle. It is owned by Reinhold Messner and is one of the most exposed wineries in the Alpine region. It is managed by the tenant couple Aurich. The main brand is called Castel Juval.

  • The Wallburgweg leads along the Naturnser Schnalswaal. Today the Waal is largely cased, but the path of the Waal has remained. It crosses the steep slopes around 200 meters above Naturns and offers rewarding views of Naturs past an old Waaler hat. It leads to the Wallburg vantage point with a view of the Schnalstal and Juval Castle.
  • Hikes on the are also popular Waalwegen, for example the Schnalswaal, which leads from Tschars to Juval.
