Schnalstal - Schnalstal

The Schnalstal (ital. Val Senales) located in South-Tirol and is a side valley of the Vinschgau. It is traversed by the Schnalser Bach, which rises in the Ötztal Alps and is at Naturno flows into the Adige. The villages of Schnalstal make up the municipality Schnals(Italian: Senales). The community has about 1250 inhabitants, the administrative seat is in Karthaus.

  • In the back of the valley you can find the 4 Vernagt reservoir (Lago di Vernago), a small reservoir. It is mainly used for the local power supply. But canoe trips are also offered here during the summer season.

Tourist Attractions

  • 5 Juval Castle was built by Hugo von Motalban around 1278. Since 1983 it has been the summer residence of Reinhold Messner, who has housed several art collections there. There is no parking space at the castle. It is possible to use the shuttle bus or to go on foot. The castle can be reached in various ways, such as the Stabener Waalweg, Tscharner Waalweg or Schnalser Waalweg. The castle is located at the entrance to the Schnalstal in the municipality of Kastelbell-Tschars.

  • The place located at an altitude of 2000 m Kurzras is a pure winter sports resort with larger hotel complexes and cable cars that transport guests up to the glaciers at an altitude of 3200 m.
