The foundation stone of about 15 kilometers southwest of the Cairo Outskirts of the city New Cairo or el-Qahira el-Gadida (engl. New Cairo, Arabic:القاهرة الجديدة‎, al-Qāhira al-Hadīda) was laid in 2000. The places that bear the name include the Mīdān el-Yasmin in the northwest, the Mīdān ʿAbd el-Munʿim Riyāḍ and Mīdān Chālid ibn el-Walīd in the center.
