The egyptianGovernorateCairo (Arabic:محافظة القاهرة‎, Muḥāfaẓat al-Qāhira) located in Lower Egypt. It borders the governorates to the north el-Qalyūbīya and esch-Sharqīya, in the east to the governorates Ismailia and Sue and to the south and west to the governorate Gīza. The eastern part of the governorate extends into the Arabian desert. The administrative center is Cairo. The governorate is part of Greater Cairo.

Helwan Governorate

In the period from April 18, 2008 to April 14, 2011, parts of the Cairo governorate were part of the governorate Helwan with the capital Helwan has been outsourced. This was done on the basis of Presidential Decree 114/2008.[1] As part of the appointment of numerous new governors, the government was on April 14, 2011 by the Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf repealed and the area was added to the el-Gīza governorate.[2][3]
