The egyptian Governorate Ismailia or el-Isma'iliya (Arabic:محافظة الإسماعيلية, Muḥāfaẓat al-Ismāʿīlīya) lies in the Suez Canal Zone. It borders the governorate to the north Port Said, in the east to the governorate North Sinai, in the south to the governorate Sue and in the west to the governorates Cairo and esch-Sharqīya. The administrative center is Ismailia.
background
The governorate was not established until 1963, the area previously belonged to the governorate Port Said (Canal Governorate).[1] Capital became Ismailia. The governorate still includes the six cities of el-Tell el-Kabīr, Fayid, el-Qanṭara Gharb (western Qantara), el-Qanṭara Scharq (eastern Qantara), Abū Ṣuweir and el-Qaṣṣāṣīn.
The governorate is on both sides of the Suez Canal and is therefore both in Africa and Asia.
