North africa is the northern part of Africa. The countries border on that in the north Mediterranean Sea and in the south to the Sahara Desert, the largest desert on earth. In the west lies the Atlantic, in the east closes the Near East at. The western part of North Africa is the Maghreb.

The status of the Western Sahara is still unclear today. On the one hand under the administration of Morocco, on the other hand there is the Sahara Arab Democratic Republic (DARS, see Wikipedia article). In the provisional constitution of the DARS, the city located in the currently Moroccan-controlled part of the country is El Aaiún intended as the capital, therefore serves Bir Lehlu in the northeast of Western Sahara still as a provisional capital. The seat of government is in Tindūf (Algeria).
