Port Said or Bur Saʿid (Arabic:بور سعيد, Būr Saʿīd, in dialect Bōr Saʿīd spoken) is one egyptian Port city in the eastern Nile Delta at the Suez Canal and is the capital of the eponymous Governorates.
background
history
Port Said is a relatively young city, which only became part of the construction work on the Suez Canal Compagnie universelle du canal maritime de Suez was founded on April 25, 1859. A ferry runs between Port Said on the western side of the Suez Canal to Port Fuad on the eastern bank. The 5 Ferry terminal in Port Said is near the police station on Palestine St., the 6 Ferry terminal in Port Fuad west of Mīdān el-Misalla (Obelisk Square). Port Said is a quiet town and seems deserted before noon. Life only comes in in the evening and at night. In summer the city is populated by Egyptian tourists.
