Port Fuad, Port Fu'ad or Bur Fuʾad (also Port Fouad, Arabic:بور فؤاد‎, Būr Fuʾād, in dialect Bōr Fuʾād spoken) is one egyptian Port city in the eastern Nile Delta on the east bank of the Suez Canal, the sister city to Port Said and belongs to the governorate of the same name Port Said, but geographically already to Sinai. The former residential town of the employees of the canal company, however, is overshadowed by its sister city as a travel destination.

background

history

Port Said is quite a young city. It was made as a result of overpopulation Port Said on the east bank of the Suez Canal laid out and inaugurated on December 21, 1926. The city is named after the Egyptian king Fuʾād I. (Reign 1922 to 1936). At first it served mainly as a residential area for the employees of the canal company. The first 800 employees settled here as early as 1920.

Port operations and fishing are important industries in the city.

The city was badly damaged during the clashes with Israel in the Suez War (1956) and Yom Kippur War (1973).

In 2006 there were around 70,000 inhabitants in the city.[1]

getting there

The best way to get to Port Fuad is via Port Said by bus or shared taxi from Cairo or Ismailia. Port Said also has a train station with daily train connections between Cairo, Ismailia, Alexandria and Port Said. Once a day there is a bus at 5 p.m. via Hurghada to Luxor. The bus in Hurghada leaves for Port Said at around 1 a.m. (due to the attacks in 2005, more and more bus controls are being carried out, which can delay the departure time).

In the street

East Delta public bus routes operate from Cairo as well as from Ismailia to Port Said around 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The travel time to and from Cairo is 3 hours, the one and a half hours from / to Ismailia. The bus station in Port Said is about 3 km outside the city center. Superjet buses also run from Cairo.

By train

Port Said can be reached by train from Cairo via Ismailia, the journey time is at least four hours. There are five trains between Cairo and Port Said and ten between Ismailia and Port Said. The train stations are in the center of all cities.

By boat

There are ferry connections to the sister city Port Said (see below).
