Niksar lies in the hinterland of the south coast of Black Sea in the Turkey. The city has about 30,000 inhabitants.

The Romans already settled here and founded their Neocaesarea here when they took the Pontic fortress of Cabeira. This was sustainably expanded by the Byzantines and Ottomans and the remains can be seen on a rock hill above the city. Sitting here in the 11th century. captured the crusader Bohemond.

Of Tokat Niksar can be reached directly via a small country road to the north (approx. 50 km).

In the castle complex there are numerous mausoleums from the Seljuk and Ottoman times as well as a medrese from the 12th century.
The city center at the foot of the mountain is manageable and peppered with old houses and bridges. The clock tower can be found at the end of the center in the south.
