Niksar lies in the hinterland of the south coast of Black Sea in the Turkey. The city has about 30,000 inhabitants.

The Romans already settled here and founded their Neocaesarea here when they took the Pontic fortress of Cabeira. This was sustainably expanded by the Byzantines and Ottomans and the remains can be seen on a rock hill above the city. Sitting here in the 11th century. captured the crusader Bohemond.

The city center at the foot of the mountain is manageable and peppered with old houses and bridges. The clock tower can be found at the end of the center in the south.
