North America is the world's third most populous continent. Based on the classic name, everything north of South America is included in the term North America. If one deviates from the division that the earth has seven continents, a more modern division is to use the term North America if Canada, Mexico and USA and defines the area between Mexico and Colombia as Central America or Central America and the archipelago as The Caribbean.
