Geography
Saint Pierre and Miquelon is made up of three main islands shaped like an archipelago. There is the island of Saint-Pierre (26 km2) to the south where most of the inhabitants are located. Then there are the islands of Miquelon (110 km2) and Langlade (91 km2 which are north of Saint-Pierre and which are connected by an isthmus. The archipelago of Saint Pierre and Miquelon is located in the North Atlantic on the shores of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. It is 25 km from the coast of Newfoundland, and 4,600 km from Paris.
These islands are bare and rocky with a bit of peat covering.

The population of Sainte Pierre and Miquelon counted 6,080 people in 2011 . Of its population, more than 5,600 people reside on the island of Sainte-Pierre. Really few people live in Langlade so the rest of the population is grouped together on the north coast from Miquelon to the community of Miquelon-Langlade.
