Saint Jean is the capital of the province canadian of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is often called St. John's Newfoundland to differentiate it from Saint Jean, the capital of New Brunswick. His name in English, St. John's, is commonly used in French as well. It is the easternmost town ofNorth America.

Saint John is the capital and largest city of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Its urban area includes a population of 196,966 inhabitants. It is located on the northeast coast of the Avalon Peninsula in the south-east of the island of Newfoundland on theAtlantic Ocean. It is in fact the easternmost town ofNorth America. The city is even closer to Paris in France that of Vancouver in British Columbia, with a distance of less than 4 000 km for Paris and more than 5 000 km for Vancouver.

Story

Saint-Jean is the oldest colony British in North America, having been founded in 1583. Its ownership was disputed by the French until 1762. The port of Saint-Jean was used during the war of independence of the United States, the War of 1812 and World War II.

On a boat

A ferry (ferry) connects North Sydney in New Scotland to the island of Newfoundland. This one goes to Channel-Port-aux-Basques in L'West Island. The crossing lasts from 5 to 6 hours and then you have to drive 905 km to get to Saint-Jean. However, from mid-June to September, a ferry runs from North Sydney to Argentia. The crossing lasts from 14 to 17 hours, but then you have to drive that on 131 km to get to Saint-Jean. The ferry is operated by Marine Atlantic. It is recommended to book well in advance, especially if you want to have a cabin for the night. There are also coaches connecting Channel-Port-aux-Basques and Argentia to Saint-Jean if you don't have your own vehicle. From Channel-Port-aux-Basques, DRL Coachlines is the company to contact while, from Argentia, it's New Hook Bus Lines.
