Northwest (Woqooyi Galbeed) also known as Fossa dell'Elefante (in SomaliMaarodi Jeex) is a region of the Somaliland.

It contains the capital of Somaliland and the two largest cities, therefore it forms the most populous and important region in the country. It is also home to more attractions and sights than the rest of Somaliland.

- Hargheisa (or Hargeisa) - The capital of Somaliland and the capital of Woqooyi Galbeed. Perhaps the safest city in the entire Horn of Africa. Very cosmopolitan, rich in history and culture.

- Gabiley - One of the oldest cities in the north of Somalia.
- Tog Wajaale - City on the border of Somaliland with theEthiopia, divided in half by the two states.

What see
- Laas Gaal - Located in the countryside outside Hargheisa, the site is definitely something not to be missed. It is a complex of caves and rock shelters that contain well-preserved cave paintings. The paintings represent some of the earliest known painting techniques in the Horn of Africa and the African continent, dating back to 9000 BC. To visit this place, a letter from the Ministry of Tourism and the payment of a fee of USD 20 are required. An "SPU" (ie escort) may be required for this trip.

When venturing outside the capital Hargheisa, it is mandatory to carry a government security guard, called "SPU". It is possible to waive, but it is a time-consuming process.
