Nordstrandischmoor (North Frisian: Lätj Möör; Danish: North beach Mor or North beach moss) is a Hallig off the Schleswig-Holstein North Sea coast and is one of the North Frisian Islands.

background

Nordstrandischmoor was an uninhabited high moor for a long time and was not settled until after the great storm surge of 1634, when the large Hallig Strand broke up and three smaller Halligen, including Nordstrandischmoor, emerged.

Since the fortification in 1926, the force of nature that the Hallig tries to bring into the sea seems to have been tamed. Today there are four terps on the Hallig, one of which only serves as a church and school house. A total of around 20 people live on the Hallig.

Politically, Nordstrandischmoor belongs together with the much larger island North beach to the community of the same name.

By train

If you have booked an overnight stay on Nordstrandischmoor, you are usually taken to Hallig by Lorenbahn. The train station is located on Lüttmoorsiel west of Struckum, there is also a large parking lot there to park your car.

In consultation with the hosts, pick-up from the Bredstedt or Husum train station is also possible, as there is no public transport connection to Lüttmoorsiel.

By boat

For day visitors, the Adler V offers regular trips from the north beach. The timetable to be noted.

During the season, the MS Nordfriesland runs at irregular intervals from Pellworm to Nordstrandischmoor. To the timetable

Since the pier on Nordstrandischmoor can only be navigated at high tide, excursion guests only have 1.5 hours to explore the Hallig by boat.

On foot

Nordstrandischmoor can be reached via a mudflat hike from the mainland (approx. 3.5 km), but the path is very strenuous and should only be undertaken with an experienced mudflat guide.

mobility

The Hallig is small and can easily be crossed on foot.

Tourist Attractions

As part of a flood protection program in 1961, all houses on the Hallig had to be completely demolished and rebuilt, which is why historical houses no longer exist here.

  • 1  Halligfriedhof. The former Hallig cemetery is surrounded by a moat. The graves are not provided with standing gravestones, as is usually the case, but these are worked into the ground to prevent them from being washed away at high tide. No burials have taken place here since 1926.
