getting there
By plane
The East Midlands Airport(IATA: EMA) is about 21 km southwest of the city center near the village Castle Donington. The airport is a hub for low-cost airlines easyJet (Connections from Geneva) and Ryanair (Flights from Berlin). There are a number of connections to most cities in the British Isles and other cities in Europe, especially in the southern region.
The airport is right on the motorway M1 and can be easily reached by car. The fastest connection is either via the A453 Head southwest and then a little further on the M1 to the south or from the west of the city via the A52 and then the M1. There are several parking spaces. Short-term parking near the terminal costs around £ 4 per hour when booked online (as of October 2019) and long-term parking is £ 40 for the first two days plus a further £ 5 for each subsequent day (e.g. £ 60 for 7 days), on-site it is significantly more expensive. There are several car rental companies on site.
A taxi from Checker Cars costs around £ 30 to Nottingham city center. Taxis can be booked at their own taxi counter next to the information desk in the terminal. Far cheaper is the ride with that Skylink-Bus which runs around the clock every 30 minutes (from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. only every 60 minutes) to the center and the train station of the city. A round-trip ticket valid for 24 hours costs £ 5 for adults and £ 2.50 for children. For example, if you take a taxi to the train station and then take the Skylink bus, you can show the bus driver a receipt from the taxi and then only pay half the price! This is also valid for family tickets. The drive from the airport to the city center takes around 45 minutes. There are other bus connections to the same company Derby, Leicestershire, Loughborough. There are also buses to some small towns in the surrounding area. National Express serves some of the intercity bus routes through the airports and thus links it to cities such as Leeds, Sheffield and the London Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
Another alternative is that Birmingham Airport(IATA: BHX)which is only 50 miles from Nottingham and easily accessible by car.

North of Nottingham is the Sherwood Forest. A small piece of what was once a very extensive forest area. There are some very old oak trees in the forest - the major oak in particular.
Every year in August there is the Robin Hood Festival with many attractions especially for children.
