Nusa Penida - Nusa Penida

Aerial view of Nusa Penida

Nusa Penida is the largest of the three southeast facing Bali (Indonesia) offshore islands. Compared to the smaller island belonging to the archipelago Lembongan is this the less touristy island. But you can see new buildings being built piece by piece, which at some point suggest a larger tourist infrastructure here as well.

The landscape is characterized by limestone with steep cliffs, absolutely no basalt rocks, hardly any rice cultivation but many banana and coconut trees. Even if there are deep valleys, streams or even rivers, there doesn't seem to be any here.

mobility

Rail and bus connections do not exist on Nusa Penida; the only sensible means of getting around are cars and scooters. Roads were and will be paved bit by bit. But there is hardly any maintenance or care of the roads. So it happens that after a few years the roads are in a worse condition than before the asphalting: potholes strung together, up to 15 cm deep, over many km, e.g. B. to Broken Bay.

Because of the narrow streets, sometimes there are no "sidewalks", no promenades, some sections of the beach that are completely flooded at high tide, getting around on foot is only possible to a limited extent, but of course feasible.
