Upper Basel area - Oberes Baselbiet

The Upper Basel area is the eastern part of the half-canton Basel-Country in the Northwestern Switzerland. It includes the Ergolztal and its side valleys, i.e. the two Frenkentäler, the Diegter- and the Homburgertal. The area lies on the border of the Folded Jura and the Table Jura.

getting there

Ergolztal and Homburgertal can be reached by rail. With InterRegios (express trains) you can travel from Lucerne, Bern and Basel to Liestal or Sissach, and there is also the S-Bahn line S3 Olten - Liestal - Basel - Laufen and the S9 Olten - Läufelfingen - Sisssach. The Waldenburgertal is opened up with the Waldenburgerbahn. The other villages can be reached by bus. The A2 motorway leads from the south through the Belchentunnel and through the Diegtertal to Basel. There is also the option of cycling over the North-South route to approach.

The Liestal regional bus runs in and around Liestal, other places can be easily reached by bus and train. Cyclists should bear in mind that the entire upper Basel area is very hilly.

Of Reigoldswil The only cable car in the Northwestern Switzerland region leads to the Waterfalls.
