Oberwald is a Swiss Municipality in the canton Valais, hence the addition VS.
background
Oberwald is the easternmost municipality in the canton of Valais and is located at the top of the Goms Rhone Valley. Their municipal area also includes those that are not inhabited all year round Glacier.
The Alpine passes Furka and Grimsel begin in Oberwald. Since the opening of the railway tunnel under the Furka in 1982, it can also be reached in winter from the Uri side by train and by train, also by car.

In the street
If you are coming from Germany, the following route is the fastest. From Basel via the A 2 motorway, bis Göschenen. There through the Schöllenschlucht over Andermatt to Realp. Where the car transport through the Furka tunnel can be used all year round. Or you can also drive over the Furkapass in summer. Both immediately lead to Oberwald. Alternatively, you can of course drive up the whole of Valais.
By train
By train, the route is similar, via Zurich to Göschenen, where you have to change to the Schöllenenbahn to Andermatt. In Andermatt you usually have to change trains a second time in order to reach Brig, Oberwald by train.
Post bus
In Oberwald, the postbus lines also start over the Susten, Nufenen and Furka in summer.
