The small town Ohrdruf lies in the foreland of Thuringian Forest. To the east of the city lies the Ohrdruf military training area.

Ohrdruf can also be reached by train from Gotha.

Ohrdruf is easily accessible via the east-west Autobahn 4. You drive on the descent 
42 Gotha from and then south on the B 247. In Ohrdruf the B 247 crosses the B 88 from Gotha to Ilmenau and then continues in the direction Oberhof. The German toy route .
