THE'Umbria is a region ofItalycentral
Understand
Nicknamed "the green heart of Italy", this region is all the more endearing as it does everything to preserve its nature and traditions. Rich in its contrasts, Umbria is crisscrossed by deep valleys adjoining mountains covered with forests, swarming with lakes, the most famous of which is Trasimeno.
Its cities seem unchanged since the Middle Ages. Old dozing palaces, winding streets, squares where there are shops presenting Umbrian crafts (ceramics from Deruta, lace from Lake Trasimeno, etc.): Assisi, which lives daily in the memory of Saint Francis and Saint Clare, conceals architectural (Saint François Basilica,…) and artistic treasures (frescoes by Cimabue, Giotto,…). It is one of the most important centers of Christendom.
Orvieto whose Duomo has one of the most beautiful facades in Italy and contains the magnificent frescoes by Luca Signorelli.
Perugia where the serenity of an imposing architecture coexists with the hectic life of our century (also famous for its Jazz festival).
And also Todi, Gubbio, Spello, Norcia, adorable and unchanging villages. Finally, Umbria is worth a detour if only for its gastronomy: olive oil, game, cold meats, cheeses, lentils, lake fish, Orvieto white wine,… Umbria is the guarantee of serene and authentic holidays.
