Osjakow - Osjaków

Osjaków - village in Poland located in voivodeship of Lodz, in Wieluń County, in in the Osjaków commune. Located over Guard, by the national road No. 8 z Wieluń down Piotrków Trybunalski, it is also a famous place for canoeing in stages.

The first records of the settlement come from 1299. In the 17th century, Osjaków belonged to the Masłowski family and in the 19th century to the Psarski family of the Jastrzębiec coat of arms. For participating in January Uprising Józef Psarski and Władysław Ostrzycki from Osjaków were sent to Siberia. Before World War II, 60% of the population was Jews. The synagogue building has been preserved to this day. The Jewish cemetery is also legible.

The spatial layout of the village retained its typical urban features with the market square in the center, because the village was granted municipal rights before 1446, however, it never became a significant urban center and in 1793, after a fire that destroyed most of the buildings in the city, it lost them. pw. st. Jadwiga was erected in the years 1912-1914 in place of the previous ones: from 1522 and another from 1649. late gothic baptismal font from the 16th century. The building has also been preserved synagoguesOn the cemetery there are the graves of the insurgents who died on March 17, 1863 in the Battle of Radoszewice and the graves of the victims of German terror.
In the Middle Ages, iron was obtained here from the local bog iron. The first forge was established in 1563. In the interwar period, ore was mined in the vicinity of Osjaków, Józefin, Jasień and Czernice and transported it to the "Kościuszko" and "Pokój" smelters in Silesia and to Czestochowa.

The Provincial Horseradish Festival in Osjaków is an annual opportunity to taste delicious dishes and participate in competitions: for the most magnificent horseradish root, knowledge about horseradish cultivation, culinary for the best dish made with horseradish and in an art competition. During the festival, there are also meetings and demonstrations about the health benefits of horseradish and the history of its cultivation, which began here in 1926, when Oskar Paszke imported horseradish seedlings from Germany. Today horseradish is grown on about 700 hectares - 70 percent of all crops in Poland.
