background
The Pantanal is a slightly inclined surface on which, among other things, the Rio Paraguay forms a huge inland delta together with other rivers. The dry season is in the months of July / August, in the rainy season from November to February the water level rises by several meters, then around two thirds of the area is under water. This results in a great diversity of species with over 3,500 plant species and around 1,200 different vertebrates, half of which are birds.
