Papua New Guinea[1] is a country in Oceania.
Planning before the trip
The country is large and that travel within the country is mostly by air. The major roads are severely affected by the forces of the weather and are often "broken". Varying weather, but usually warm 15-20 in the highlands during the day, closer to 0 degrees in the evening. Coasts and islands contribute with heat and mostly warming sun. Malaria is a problem throughout PNG, except the highlands. The hospitals can be far away, so bring some extra medicine and take out a good insurance before departure if an aviation doctor has to be called. If possible, avoid the local hospitals / care.
It is recommended to pre-book the entire trip and locally on site may make excursions from the hotel you are staying at. A bit complex to travel around on your own, but well worth a visit.
A trip to Papua New Guinea will in all probability be the best thing to do if you are interested in an undiscovered country and most of the population from a bygone era. Travel sensibly and smile often. You get a long way on that.
To take with you to Papua New Guinea
Malaria prophylaxis, ev. mosquito nets, light packing, pens, t-shirts (possibly barter), medicine, good shoes when visiting the highlands, flashlight, extra toilet paper and other "sensible".
To bring with you from Papua New Guinea
Wooden masks ... a must. Mainly from the area of the Sepik River and possibly the highlands.

Getting to Papua New Guinea
There are scheduled flights Port Moresby with Air Niugini from Australia, Singapore, Manila, Hong Kong and Tokyo. Flights from Singapore run twice a week, while flights from Brisbane, Australia run more frequently. Make sure to adjust the flight so that there is not too long a wait at the stopover. Also keep in mind that it costs an entrance fee to enter Papua New Guinea which must be paid in cash at customs. It can only be paid in Australian dollars (AUD) or China, which are in principle impossible to exchange anywhere other than at the airport in PNG.
Relocation in Papua New Guinea
Moving within Papua New Guinea is almost exclusively by air. However, there are airports in abundance, in some cases only lawns outside tiny villages. The size of the island means that boat trips usually take too long if it does not apply to shorter distances.
There are basically no roads outside the big cities.
Payment
Accommodation
In larger hotels and restaurants they can take cards, but you should not count on it. There are no ATMs, but withdrawals must be made at the bank where there may be some queues. You should always be careful about showing how much money you have.

Communication
Most hotels have a regular telephone. Some mobile networks are starting to work in larger cities, but may be cumbersome due to destruction of the masts. They are located on land owned by the people and if they are not paid, you take matters into your own hands.
Security
Security is good in most PNG. There are a lot of robberies and thefts in major cities, so be a little vigilant. Most problems in the country are quarrels between the local tribes, who also quarrel with each other in the big cities. It rarely affects visitors, almost zero occasions. At night it is recommended to stay indoors. Take into account local customs, which differ greatly from ours, and smile often.
