Geography

The state is situated in the middle South America, northeast of Argentina, also borders on Bolivia and Brazil. The country's population is concentrated mainly in the south.

Climate

The climate varies from subtropical to temperate depending on the location, with significant rainfall in the east of the country and semi-dry in the west. Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed over all months. The coldest month is July (average temperature approx. 22 degrees C). The western part of the country is hotter than the eastern and the rainfall is more irregular.

According to official data from 2006, Paraguay had over 40 cities with a population of over 10,000. residents. The capital of the country, Asunción, was the only city with over 500,000 inhabitants. residents; 8 cities with a population of 100,000 ÷ 500,000; 10 cities with a population of 50,000 ÷ 100,000; 3 cities with a population of 25,000 ÷ 50,000 and the rest of the cities below 25,000 residents.

Larger cities are concentrated in the southern part of the country, especially in the Central Department surrounding the capital. In 1992, the urban population constituted 51% of the total population of Paraguay.
